Cheddington Womens' Institute
We meet on the first Thursday in the month, in the Village Hall at 7.45pm, and we are always happy to welcome new members, or visitors.
We are a friendly group and enjoy a wide variety of activities which include:-
• 2 flourishing Book Groups where we read a wide variety of books including the classics, biographies as well as more contemporary literature.
• Members support a range of charities and have recently presented the Aylesbury Branch of Mind with a cheque. We are currently raising money for Aylesbury Women's Aid.
• We are also knitting and crocheting garments for 'Hope and Aid Direct' and these items have recently been sent to Kosovo.
• A Craft Group which meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month supports the work for this charity.
• Rambles take place each month leaving the Green at 9.15a.m.
• A Scrabble Group meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month.
This year Cheddington WI celebrated its 90th birthday. The longest serving WI member and our newest member were invited to cut the cake.
On Easter Saturday members held an Easter Cake and Cookie Sale to raise money for the Aylesbury branch of MIND.
Our outing in July was a trip to Chafor Wine Estate in Gawcott. We learned a lot about wine growing and production from Tim Chafor and enjoyed a wine tasting accompanied by cheese and biscuits.
In October our members enjoyed a Harvest Supper followed by an auction of produce. Mrs. Irene Johnson, President of Cheddington WI, was the auctioneer.
Our Christmas Party was a great success with delicious food prepared by talented members, good music and, of course, wonderful company.
